Automatic drop seals

Installing an automatic drop seal is always a good idea, because it noticeably increases living comfort. Its use offers reliable protection against noise and sounds, dust, dirt and unpleasant draughts.

The task of an auto drop seal

The task of an automatic drop seal is to ensure that the gap between the floor and the swing door is tightly closed. And it works like this: when the door is closed, the seal lowers automatically due to a release mechanism. The bottom gap between the floor and the door closes and noise, draughts and cold no longer have a chance to enter the room.

The good thing is that this process does not require any electricity, because the automatic door seal is activated and deactivated by a spring mechanism. This sophisticated technology also makes it possible to use it on uneven floors. The sealing profile adapts ideally to the floor conditions, regardless of whether it is uneven, sloping, concave or convex.

Advantages of a drop seal

Installing an automatic drop seal is always a good idea, because it noticeably increases living comfort. Its use offers reliable protection against:

  • noise and other disturbing sounds
  • dust and dirt
  • draughts
  • vermin
  • unpleasant odours

In addition, there are doors that have to fulfil special tasks. Functional doors require special drop seals, the function of which must also be checked and approved by a recognised body together with the corresponding door in public buildings. They protect against sound, smoke, fire, draughts, moisture and cold. In addition, the automatic drop seals support the fulfilment of building code requirements.

Drop seals for hinged doors

Our range of rebated drop seals for timber doors is already well-established in the industry following decades of assured quality and consistent innovation. This type of drop seal is fitted into a grooved rebate in the bottom of timber doors, remaining hidden during daily use. As a result, door designers can meet performance requirements whilst maintaining the door’s aesthetic quality regardless of the chosen material, style and finish.

The seal drops automatically when the door is closed to form a seal with the floor, retracting when the door is opened to ensure the door operation is unhindered. This section contains options for use with both hinged and pivoted timber doors. Their main purpose is to provide an effective barrier against sound transfer at the door threshold, as well as smoke, air, light, dirt, dust, insects and odours. We have tested options for specialist applications including protection from radiation, corrosion and weather elements such as wind and driving rain.

Schall-Ex®

Consistently positive feedback and enthusiastic customers confirm the exceptionally high sound insulation values of the seals. With a 7 mm gap (between floor and door), the Schall-Ex® L-15 now achieves values of 52 dB, with a 15 mm gap it is still 51 dB, with which athmer has set a new industry-wide benchmark with the proven groove dimensions of 15 x 30 mm. Even in double-leaf door systems with the optimally matched flush bolt - which athmer supplies directly if required - the Schall-Ex® provides excellent sealing, as the projection of the sealing profile on the closing sides of the door leaves no gap.

werkzeuglos einstellbarer Gleitauslöser Thanks to a standard sliding actuator that can be adjusted without tools, there is no longer any need to invest time in attaching a protective pressure plate - even on lacquered wooden frames. This is an enormous plus point both functionally and visually! The clip-in actuator, which can therefore also be retrofitted, also has another advantage: you can activate the seal for the first time and put it into operation only when the new building is ready for occupancy.

This ensures that dirt, debris and dust from the construction site do not damage the seal profile in advance or impair its function.

Stadi

The new version of athmer's Stadi sealing range for metal and system doors made of PVC, steel or aluminium is so versatile and adaptable that it covers a wide range of applications. All Stadi versions are based on the same mechanical philosophy, and this brings many advantages with it – such as parallel lowering, the lack of an inner rail offset or the option of time-delayed closing. Also, the new Stadi series has been extended to include seals in sizes 17/17 and 17/20.

Delayed drop section

To avoid pressurisation when closing the door, selected Stadis are available with an optional mechanism, which delays the dropping of the seal. The combination of a damping cylinder and spring extends the time the seal takes to drop.

This means that air can be dispelled during this time, making the door suitable for airlock situations. When opened, the seal moves up again quickly without needlessly rubbing against the floor.
